FARM INSURANCE – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Farm Insurance – FAQ’s Information

Safeguarding Agriculture Assets – From Large, Commercial Farms to Small, Family Owned Farms

When is a farm insurance policy the right policy?

It depends on a number of factors, including the amount of revenue generated, crops produced, acreage owned or leased and the specific agriculture operations taking place.

Do I need a farm insurance policy for my Hazelnut operation?

It really does depend on all the factors above; however, we have experience working alongside Hazelnut growers throughout Oregon to develop fitting coverage.  This may be in the form of a properly endorsed homeowners policy, a farm policy or a combination of farm and commercial insurance depending on the size and scope of your operation.

When is the best time to purchase farm insurance protection?

Effective dates can be established at any point through the year. It is typically best for the farm operation to seek a renewal date during an offseason. This ensures proper time can be devoted to reviewing and thinking about your insurance protection.

What items should I have ready to thoroughly discuss my policy?

We recommend gathering a list of locations, equipment with corresponding values, dwellings and outbuildings and operations information (revenue, crops, animals, etc).

Farming is not my primary occupation. Will that impact my farm insurance policy?

Yes! While farm policies offer coverage options not found with a homeowners policy we can work with you to identify whether farm insurance or a properly endorsed homeowners policy meets your needs.
